Do you know the artist?

Fabio Calvetti

Fabio Calvetti was born in Certaldo (Fi) in 1956. He graduated from the Artistic High School in 1978 and later from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence in the Painting School section. Calvetti's training took place under the sign of experimentation in the 1970s, exploring unconventional figuration, pop impulses, and visual poetry. A gradual maturation of his style led the artist to make compositions more essential and efficient: environments where traces of his formative journey, certain loves, and quirky solitudes reminiscent of Hopper seem accessible. His exhibition path has unfolded across Italy, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Korea, Luxembourg, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Oceania, and the United States, with a focus on France and Japan.

In Japan, the Shiraishi Gallery in Tokyo included him in the 'World artist tour' project alongside artists like George Segal, Tom Wesselmann, and Alex Katz. More recently, starting in 2008, he had a retrospective at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Arezzo. He exhibited at Palazzo Venezia in Rome, the Biblioteca Marciana in Venice, and in the Cloister of Sant'Agostino in Pietrasanta (Lu). In the following years, he showcased 'The world in one room/Il mondo in una stanza' at Palazzo Pretorio in Certaldo and in the Sala delle Colonne in Pontassieve (Fi), 'Una notte di primavera' in Catania, 'Possibile verità' at the Galleria Impressionart in Cetona (Si), and was an honorary guest at the 46th Salon des Arts in Cholet (France). He also presented the performance 'Lyrique pour mon fauteuil' at the Rocca di Staggia in Staggia Senese (Si).

Subsequent solo exhibitions include 'La via dell'Arte' at Villa Schiff in Montignoso (Ms), 'Scraps of life/Pezzi di vita' at Palazzo dei Priori in Volterra (Pi), 'Little tales/Piccole storie' at the former church of Santa Maria della Misericordia in Perugia, 'Enigmi e Segreti' at Palazzo Consiliare in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (Fi), 'Il senso di un viaggio' at Castel San Zeno di Montagnana (Pd), and in France, 'Tranches de vie' at the Musee Utrillo-Valadon in Sannois, the Galerie Vieceli Art Contemporain in Cannes, and 'Consolazione' at the Arts Center in Seoul (Korea).

In 2018, he exhibited at Spazio Onofri 57 in San Marino with 'Out In.' Calvetti lives and works in Certaldo.
