Do you know the artist?

Francesco Nesi

Francesco Nesi was born in 1952 in San Casciano Val di Pesa (Fi). A self-taught painter, he developed a great passion for art from a young age. With a playful and imaginative spirit, he is known for his joyful and playful visions, possessing freshness and richness of inventiveness. The atmospheres of his surroundings inspire and accompany him in his paintings. His works are appreciated for the harmony of color and the skillful construction of landscapes that embrace the figures.

Nesi began exhibiting his work in the early 1990s, following his win of the Premio Bargellini in Florence in 1985, which led to a solo exhibition at the National Library of the city. Since 1993, he has successfully participated in collective and solo exhibitions, art fairs, and art festivals both in Italy and abroad. His iconic figures, characterized by hats, tailcoats, and martingales, continue to happily soar over the Tuscan landscape, playing the violin on the sea, and wandering under the bridges of a dreamlike Florence. Over the years, he has showcased his art in numerous exhibitions, gaining recognition not only in the United States but also in Munich, Minden (Germany), Paris, Cap d'Antibes, Chaumont (France), Sharjah Art Museum in the United Arab Emirates, Riga (Latvia), California, Castro Verde (Portugal), and Spain.

He has held solo exhibitions at Galleria Il Novecento in Salerno, Corsica, Poltu Quatu, and Porto Cervo (Sardinia). Other exhibitions include shows in Frontignan and the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, Galleria d'Arte Barbato in Scafati (Sa), 'Orizzontià e oltre' in the Sala delle Colonne in Pontassieve (Fi), 'La danza della Luna' at SpaziArti Ungallery in Milan, 'A passeggio tra sogno e realtà' at Palazzo De Maria in Paestum (Sa), and at the complex of San Filippo Neri in Lauro (Av). He also had a solo exhibition at Villa Schiff in Montignoso (Ms), and at Altamura (Galleria Artimmagine), Museo Michetti in Francavilla a Mare (Ch). Additionally, he had a joint exhibition with his daughter, 'Francesco ed Elisa Nesi. Arte generazionale' at Eataly in Florence and 'Sotto la Stessa Luna' at the Osservatorio Polifunzionale del Chianti in Barberino Val d'Elsa (Fi).

In 2015, he inaugurated a monument in Pontassieve dedicated to the 'fiascaie.' Francesco Nesi lives and works in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa (Fi).
