Carlo Romiti was born in 1953 in Castelfiorentino, in the province of Florence. He graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. Since 1987, he has directed the Theatre Workshop at the Centro Arti Visive in the Municipality of Certaldo. He also collaborated with a research group in the Faculty of Education at the University of Florence to produce teaching materials, and has led painting technique courses for the Educational Section of the Uffizi Galleries as well as at the Prehistoric Museum of Florence.\n\nRomiti\u2019s painting research focuses on the natural earth pigments of the region where he lives, a distinctive feature of his work. For years he has collected these soils himself, scraping them from riverbanks by hand. He then grinds them in stone mortars and mixes them with water, egg, various binders or even linseed oil. In his practice, the act of gathering earth marks the true beginning of each painting. Sometimes the color itself inspires the subject, so that the work unfolds in a dialogue between pigment and image.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

This ancient technique reflects Romiti\u2019s chosen way of life: a deliberate solitude in the countryside between San Gimignano and Volterra. His most frequent subjects are the horses and dogs around his home, as well as deer and wild boar in the nearby woods. These animal and landscape scenes allow him\u2014and the viewer\u2014to reconnect with an ancestral part of ourselves.\n\nRomiti has exhibited widely, both in Italy and abroad, in solo and group shows. His first solo exhibition was held in 1979 at Galleria Orlandi in Prato. His international presence began in 1991 at the Maison Visinand in Montreux and in Geneva, and later extended to Germany (Berlin, Hanover, Solingen, Heidelberg, Sassenberg), London, Kazakhstan, Luxembourg, and New York. In Italy, he has taken part in numerous collective and solo exhibitions throughout the peninsula.
