Giovanni Maranghi

Giovanni Maranghi was born in 1955 in Lastra a Signa, in the province of Florence. He completed his studies in Florence, graduating from the Leon Battista Alberti Art Institute before enrolling at the Faculty of Architecture. Concurrently, he attended nude drawing classes at the Accademia di Belle Arti, where he studied alongside artists such as Primo Conti, Lucio Venna and Paolo Ghiglia. At the age of twenty, he mounted his first solo exhibition at Galleria San Ferdinando in Bari. Among his early career milestones were solo shows at Galleria d’Arte Spinetti in Florence in 1982, Galleria Dalders in Amsterdam in 1985 and Galleria Diva in Brussels in 1987. The 1990s opened with a solo presentation at Galleria Nuovo Sagittario in Milan, after which he took part in a series of exhibitions across the United States. As the new century began, Maranghi presented a show at the Hotel Excelsior in Florence inspired by the poetry of Fosco Maraini. In 2001, Mondadori dedicated a feature to his work in the magazine Arte. In the years that followed his paintings were exhibited in Paris; Siena; Pietrasanta; Matera; at Florence’s Palazzine Lorenesi during Pitti Immagine; and in Forte dei Marmi, as well as in the Netherlands, France, Russia and the United States.
He then exhibited at the Basilica of the Holy Virgin of Mount Carmel in Piacenza and at the historic Spedale degli Innocenti in Florence, followed by further shows in the United States, Göteborg in Sweden and Paris. During the 69th Monaco Grand Prix, his work was displayed aboard the luxury yacht Planet 125, and he performed live inside the NK department store in Göteborg. In 2011, he took part in the “Teatro del Silenzio” event in Lajatico, presenting his work there as well. Subsequently, Maranghi showed in Berlin, Paris and Montreux in Switzerland, then returned to Pontassieve in Florence and later exhibited in Stuttgart, Germany. He returned once more to Göteborg before mounting a show at Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence. His exhibition “Capriccio Italiano” traveled to Beijing, after which he returned to Berlin and Stuttgart for solo presentations. Other one-person exhibitions include a show curated by Kunstgalerie Bech at Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, a solo at Ca’ dei Carraresi in Treviso, and further presentations in Florence and Matera. Among his most recent exhibitions are “Immersion” at Lu.C.C.A. – Lucca Center of Contemporary Art, and “Ama solo me” with the Maimeri Foundation at the Modern Art Gallery in Milan. Giovanni Maranghi lives and works in the province of Florence.
