Fabio Calvetti

Fabio Calvetti was born in 1956 in Certaldo, in the province of Florence. He graduated from the Liceo Artistico in 1978 and went on to complete his studies in the School of Painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. His artistic formation took shape amid the experimental currents of the 1970s, blending unconventional figuration with pop impulses and visual poetry. Over time his visual language became more stripped-down and effective, creating compositions that still reveal traces of his early influences—passionate moments, and Hopper-like, elongated solitudes. Calvetti’s work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions throughout Italy, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Korea, Luxembourg, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden, Bulgaria, Switzerland, Oceania and the United States, with a particular focus on France and Japan. In Tokyo, the Shiraishi Gallery included him in its “World Artist Tour” alongside George Segal, Tom Wesselmann and Alex Katz. Beginning in 2008 he was honored with a retrospective at the Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Arezzo. He then exhibited at Palazzo Venezia in Rome, the Biblioteca Marciana in Venice and the Chiostro di Sant’Agostino in Pietrasanta.
In the years that followed he presented “The World in One Room / Il mondo in una stanza” at the Palazzo Pretorio in Certaldo and in the Sala delle Colonne in Pontassieve. He showed “Una notte di primavera” in Catania and “Possibile verità” at Galleria Impressionart in Cetona, and was guest of honor at the 46th Salon des Arts in Cholet, France. His performance “Lyrique pour mon fauteuil” took place at the Rocca di Staggia in Staggia Senese. Solo exhibitions included “La via dell’Arte” at Villa Schiff in Montignoso, “Scraps of Life / Pezzi di vita” at the Palazzo dei Priori in Volterra, “Little Tales / Piccole storie” in the former church of Santa Maria della Misericordia in Perugia, “Enigmi e Segreti” at the Palazzo Consiliare in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, and “Il senso di un viaggio” at Castel San Zeno in Montagnana. In France he exhibited “Tranches de vie” at the Musée Utrillo-Valadon in Sannois and at Galerie Vieceli Art Contemporain in Cannes, and “Consolazione” at the Arts Center in Seoul. In 2018 he presented “Out In” at Spazio Onofri 57 in San Marino. Calvetti lives and works in Certaldo.
